A wiki wonderland

MindTouch has launched Nexus, a social media platform that creates wiki communities and harnesses community-generated content for online publishing and commerce.

The company reports that the wiki-centric Nexus platform is well suited for creating communities of common interest where the content generated is highly contextual and relevant to those who share that interest. MindTouch further claims Nexus provides significant cost savings for its customers by enabling them to generate large amounts of fresh, relevant content at a low cost and to enable that content to be reused or syndicated elsewhere.

Nexus integrates with a Web site's current look and feel, as well as backend systems such as account management, publishing, search and advertising. It enables a site's visitors to easily contribute content and collaborate with other visitors and site editors with a WYSIWYG editing tool. They can post text, images, video and MP3 clips. It also provides tools for site editors to manage how community-generated content can be blended with the editorial and syndicated content on the site. Pages can be set to edit, comment or read-only mode, and are indexed, linkable, searchable and taggable. Contributions can be submitted on their own or in context of an article or other editorial content.
