David E. McBee has served as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Command Librarian for the past six years.
Prior to coming to the USACE, Mr. McBee was a librarian with three major federal banking agencies: the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and the Federal Reserve Board.
In those capacities Mr. McBee has provided an array of Research and Reference support to Attorneys, Economists, Bank Examiners, and other administrative staff. He has given presentations on database and Internet searching and electronic resources including journals and financial data. Mr. McBee has been the library webmaster and served as a member of the Internet Operating Committee at the FDIC when that agency was developing its Internet and Intranet sites.
Recently David completed the Advanced Course at the Army Management Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. Mr. McBee is Army Knowledge Management Certified and has been working with agency staff and librarians to support KM practices at the Corps of Engineers.
Mr. McBee has been published in the Government Librarians Best Practices Guides for 2008-2014. He has served on committees for the DC Chapter and the Government Information Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA).
David is the recipient of Department of Army Superior Civilian Service Award for support of Army G-1, Technology and Business Architecture Integration Directorate. He also received the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his leadership of the 2017 Organization Day event.
Mr. McBee has a Masters in Library Science from the University of Maryland. He holds BA degrees in Liberal Arts from West Virginia University and in Philosophy from Christendom College.
Mr. McBee is married and lives with his husband George in Washington, DC. In his spare time Mr. McBee is a member of a community band in Washington, DC and plays trombone and piano
