David Hanes is a Technical Leader in the Wireless and SP Infrastructure Team of Cisco’s Technical Assistance Center (TAC) and a Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE #3491) in Routing and Switching. He currently specializes in both Collaboration and the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. David also focuses on intellectual capital capture and reuse for Cisco and owns the technical priorities and requirements for Cisco’s largest, internal social knowledge community, Tech Zone. Tech Zone is the foundational platform for how Cisco support engineers collaborate and create, consume, and reuse technical content. David is the co-author of the Cisco Press book Fax, Modem, and Text for IP Telephony and the principal author of the RFC 6913 IETF standard. He has patents issued and pending in the area of troubleshooting voice and fax over IP. His expertise has resulted in speaking engagements at conferences around the world. Since joining Cisco in 1997, David has worked as a Technical Assistance Center (TAC) engineer for the WAN, WAN Switching, and Multiservice Voice teams, a team lead for the Multiservice Voice team, and an Escalation Engineer covering a variety of VoIP technologies. He has troubleshot escalated voice and fax over IP issues in Cisco customer networks worldwide and remains a technical resource for other Cisco employees and customers. David holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
