Jeff Stemke was Knowledge Strategist and the primary architect of Chevron’s global KM environment. He designed and implemented a suite of knowledge-based processes to connect people to people and people to documented knowledge. The processes were supported with enabling technology and collaborative behavior, and delivered measureable business results for key strategic business goals in operational excellence, capital stewardship, cost reduction and organizational capability. He has worked with many groups to design, launch and sustain global communities of practice.

Over the last few years, the "Millennial Crew Change” became a top priority. Jeff developed a practical yet comprehensive knowledge retention and transfer process to minimize business disruption as subject matter experts began to retire, accelerate the competency development of the many new hires and increase overall workforce performance as knowledge is replicated. This "expert know-how transfer system" can be integrated in any company's existing processes and operations. He summarized his approach in a case study in “Knowledge Retention: Strategies and Solutions” by Dr. Jay Liebowitz.

Through results like these, Chevron has been recognized as one of the global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises and by a Computerworld Heroes Laureate award for improving the business value and social aspects of knowledge-sharing. Jeff has shared key milestones on this journey in many articles and conferences.
