Laurie Nelsen brings her experience as an educator, ontologist, and information scientist to manage the growing Ontology Team in Global Business Solutions at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The Ontology Team is responsible for the development and implementation of terminology and semantic services to support the delivery of content to multiple websites and products, including the award winning website MayoClinic.org. Over the last 3 years, Laurie has been leading the effort to develop a semantic services environment for the new Mayo Clinic Knowledge Content Management System (KCMS) and transforming legacy taxonomies to ontologies to support smarter management and delivery of content. Laurie has over 12 years of experience working in the health care domain. Prior to her current position at Mayo Clinic, she worked at the University of Minnesota, Bio-Medical Library and Academic Health Center. She is passionate about the power of semantic technology and enjoys sharing the lessons learned from her experiences in implementing innovative technology.
