Dr. Shellie R. Glass is the Command’s Chief Knowledge Officer at the U.S. Southern Command. She has over 25 years’ federal government experience with the Army, Air Force, and Navy. She began her federal civilian career as the Assistant Director at the Army Post library, Fort Richardson, Alaska. She later completed a 2-year Department of the Army Internship in Counseling and became a Director of a Counseling Center in Germany after the completion of her intern program.
She expanded her career by developing graduate level curriculum in Strategic Communication and Information Operations at the US Army War College (AWC-Carlisle, PA) and guided AWC students in developing their Master’s degree thesis. Additionally, she has established four new Knowledge Management Programs for the HQDA-G4-Army’s Logistics Innovation Agency (New Cumberland, PA), the Army’s Human Resources Command (Alexandria, VA now at Fort Knox, KY), the HQDA-G1 (The Pentagon), and currently at the US SOUTHCOM (Miami, FL). As part of the HQDA-G1, Dr. Glass was tapped to lead a new initiative to justify, certify, and ensure DOD IT compliance for the Army’s largest personnel software portfolio.
As the US SOUTHCOM’s (SC) Chief Knowledge Officer, Dr. Glass leads the command’s Knowledge Management (KM), Command History, and Command Records Management programs. She actively networks with leaders from industry, academia, professional associations, and other government agencies. Dr. Glass frequently speaks at conferences/symposiums and as a guest presenter for university courses and webinars.
She holds a Doctorate, as well as Master degrees, in the areas of organizational behavior, adult education, and K-12 education, as well as, a master’s degree in Library and Information Science. Dr. Glass has completed certifications in Chief Information Officer and Strategic Government Leader from the National Defense University in Washington, DC. She is currently finishing additional certifications in Cyber Security and Cyber Leadership with NDU.
Dr. Glass’ passion includes mentoring young government employees and university students who desire to enter federal government service, as well as, making handmade quilts for our Wounded Warriors.
