Kent has worked internationally in a variety of executive, operations, technology and business renewal roles in energy, systems engineering, and consulting industries. He is known internationally as a pioneer in Knowledge Management, developing one of the first industry programs for British Petroleum in the late 1990’s. Kent then applied his expertise in the defence sector as the CKO for Science Applications International Corporation, and led both companies to their first MAKE Awards.

Since 2007, Kent has consulted in KM with more than 50 organizations across public and private sectors. His experience, insights and practices have been documented in many articles and research papers, and in over twenty books. He has appeared on the Bloomberg Financial Network and several other television programs.

He is currently the Program Director for The Conference Board’s Knowledge & Collaboration (since 2007) and Change & Transformation (since 2012) Councils, where he holds the honorary title of Senior Fellow in the Human Capital Practice. Kent is on the advisory board for Kent State University’s M.S. program in KM  and started the KM Master’s Degree program for CSUN in 2009. He has also been an instructor at the US Army War College. He holds a B.S. Degree in Geosciences from Kent State University and a M.S Degree in Geophysics from University of Arizona. He also completed the Executive Program from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

Kent  splits his time between Arizona and Colorado, where he is a docent at U of A's Alife Norville Gem and Mineral Museum in Tucson and a fly-fishing guide for Wounded Warriors Healing Waters Program in Lake George. He is an avid mineral collector and traveller.
