The right time for knowledge management

Opportunity for change

In 2000, I was at the KMWorld conference. It was at the peak of the search to analytics systems. The technology promised to capture, analyze, index, and share the right information at the right time to the right people. Some of the companies are still around today, though most have fallen by the wayside. Some lost their funding in the crash that was soon to follow, while others were too early in the market. They had great ideas, but the world wasn’t ready. What I remember most about that time was the sheer weight and depth of innovation on show. Some were inspired and brilliant, some were inspired but impractical.

Fast-forward 20 years, and much of the exuberance has long gone. But thankfully, it's not all gloom and doom. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t think I have experienced a time of so much opportunity for change, and I can say that there has never been a better time to be a part of the knowledge and information management sector.
