Such advances require major leaps in specialized knowledge. Industrial-age, one-size-fits-all approaches to educa- tion will give way to highly customized, personalized curricula aimed at rapidly delivering the right human skills and talent needed as technology continues its rapid evolution. With all of this comes the need for even greater governance. And perhaps of greatest importance, ethics, a purely human trait.
These are only a few examples of the many problems and opportunities we’ll be facing in the years and decades ahead. The message is clear: No single person or committee or group can weave the best paths through the infinite maze of possible event chains. Only humans and machines working together, side by side, can produce a better result than would ever be possible from either one alone.
As KM’ers, let’s do everything we can to turn 8 billion minds and roughly 20 billion computational devices loose on the world in a beneficial way. The possibilities are truly mind-boggling.
