Microsoft names ISA winners
The second annual Microsoft Industry Solutions Awards were presented at the opening of the final day of KMExpo '98.
The awards are designed to recognize independent software vendors (ISV) in the document systems market who best utilize Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) technology, specifically Windows NT and SQL Server.
Claiming the award for document management was PC DOCS (www. pcdocs.com) and for workflow management, Action Technologies (www.actiontech.com).
PC DOCS claimed the award for the second year in a row, this time for an implementation at Equistar Chemicals (Houston). See page 3 of KMWorld's September issue for a profile of the system. Equistar is PC DOCS' largest manufacturing installation of its Microsoft BackOffice server-based DOCS Open.
Other finalists in document management were FileNet (www.filenet.com) and Keyfile (www.keyfile.com).
Action Technologies' winning industry solution Action Works is also based on the Microsoft BackOffice server and was selected based on its performance at Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems (Ft. Worth, TX). Lockheed uses the solution to streamline its quality assurance reporting process. Lockheed's ActionWorks system has shown a 50% reduction in the problem resolution cycle time and the company is projecting a net cumulative savings of over $1 million by 2001.
Other workflow finalists were Software Guaranty (www.softwareguaranty.com) and TMSSequoia (www.tmsinc.com).
Judges were Ray Edwards, Lighthouse Consulting; Tom Dale, Automated Data Sciences; Mike Maziarka, Cap Ventures; and Daniel Chan, Jay Bromberek, Richard Medina and Emeka Ojukwu of Doculabs.
