What Are the Key Challenges Knowledge Managers Address? (Video)
Red Hat Global KM lead Onkar Chandel discussed the challenges knowledge managers face in their organizations in this clip from his presentation at KMWorld 2018.
There are many knowledge management challenges, as knowledge is coming in from a variety of sources both within organizations and from outside sources, said Chandel.
Not only are organizations building the knowledge but the outside world is also building and creating knowledge. So you have to bring outside knowledge within the organization as well as reuse whatever your organization has created. And then, so many people are generating knowledge across the organization, he added.
“And then there are the associates. Global associates are creating or building knowledge in different languages. So, if the language is created in Japanese, then you have to make sure that it is also available in other languages,” Chandel said. One very large company, that has 360,000 associates, had a 50% turnover of their workforce in the last 5 years—“that means the whole culture will be in a shift of changing.”
With all these data sources, and all this change, said Chandel, “we have to make sure that we take care of the changing world, the changing technology, changing businesses. And one solution does not fit all. So the capabilities and levels of associates, it is different. They behave differently, they react differently, So we have to make sure that everyone is producing at the same level.”
