Bank streamlines discovery of sensitive information with Netwrix Auditor
First National Bank Minnesota has deployed Netwrix Auditor to gain visibility into its core IT systems and enhance the security of critical data and systems. As a result, the company has improved its security posture while reducing IT workloads by shortening its Active Directory rebuild time by 88%.
First National Bank Minnesota (FNB MN) was founded in 2005 as a result of the merger of the Security State Bank of Mankato and the First National Bank of St. Peter, which dates back to 1857. With offices in St. Peter, Mankato and Gaylord, Minnesota, U.S., the bank offers a wide variety of personal banking products and services, business banking solutions, and investment services.
The bank’s IT department wanted to automate auditing of its core IT systems for two reasons: There was a need to rebuild Active Directory for better security and a need to secure customer financial data.
Netwrix Auditor was chosen for its ease of use and the ability to configure alerts based on thresholds that are critical for the bank. According to Holly McCoy, senior information systems officer for FNB MN, the visibility and governance platform offers key advantages. It helps McCoy make sure that customer data is located only in secured locations and that only authorized users can access it. In addition, by reviewing Netwrix Auditor’s daily reports, McCoy enabled timely detection of suspicious activity in all business-critical IT systems, helping ensure secure and stable operation. And, thanks to the visibility into Active Directory that Netwrix Auditor provided, McCoy spent 3 weeks instead of the expected 6 months to rebuild it, and it streamlined routine tasks, enabling her to focus on more strategic priorities.
“Netwrix Auditor helps us be more proactive rather than reactive,” said McCoy. “We can quickly catch potentially malicious activity in the network we might not otherwise see. Our sensitive data is more secure because, thanks to Netwrix Auditor, we know exactly where it resides and who has access to it. I don’t want to think of life without Netwrix Auditor. It makes things so much easier."
