A new online education initiative is being implemented at the TELUS Centre for Professional Development at the University of Alberta in Canada. The Centre will implement a learning management system to support the education and training events it offers public and private organizations.

ISOPIA will supply the Centre with LearnTone, a hosted application that enables the delivery and tracking of training programs for large user populations. ISOPIA provides Web-based e-learning products for multiple client groups with various learning needs.

“The hosted delivery platform makes it possible for TCPD to extend learning well beyond the traditional classroom,” says Sally Omar, executive director and chief operating officer at the TELUS Centre. “The system will enable us to offer online learning courses and customized learning programs, complete with unprecedented user support, for a wide range of organizations.

“LearnTone offers the scalability we require,” Omar adds. “The system’s ability to handle a large number of simultaneous users ensures that our learners around the globe can access courses at any time.”

The TELUS Centre provides professional development solutions through a blend of programs and services that include: professional programs and courses created in collaboration with clients, university faculty, other institutions and consultants; meeting and conference facilities; consulting services; and e-learning solutions.

The online education initiative, according to a press release from ISOPIA, transforms the bricks-and-mortar model of learning while complementing the principles of public education, which place a premium on ease of access. It adds that e-learning “is poised for high growth in corporate education and life-long learning.
