New intranet solution promotes teamwork at Honeywell

To encourage cooperation among scientists, management, representatives and customers, Honeywell Performance Polymers & Chemicals has implemented a new business collaboration system.

The intranet-based, e-business solution from MatrixOne, which replaces a legacy paper-based system, was chosen to streamline workflow and improve overall business processes at Honeywell. It also will enhance the company’s ability to understand and collaboratively react to customer needs, according to company officials.

“Honeywell is a huge company,” says Leigh E. Townley, VP of e-business and IT at Honeywell PPC. “We are continuously looking for ways to utilize technology and build even stronger customer relationships. We recognize that using Internet technology is a way to foster greater overall collaboration, both geographic and organizational, between our customers and technical experts. The solution is already making a marked difference in how information flows from our customers through our business and back.”

The solution routes and documents information--regardless of where it is located or needed, and allows users to retrieve, track and store data across platforms worldwide. With the new system, engineering, manufacturing, legal, finance and marketing can share information in real time, and act on and modify that information as if all the parties were in the same room.

“System startup went smoothly,” says Townley. “After our small task force defined the issues, we had a prototype system running within a few weeks. Then it was just a matter of transferring that prototype to our existing IT infrastructure. From concept to complete implementation, it took just 12 weeks,” he says.

Honeywell Performance Polymers & Chemicals is a custom manufacturer and supplier of chemical products and formulations. It’s part of the corporate giant Honeywell, which employs 120,000 people in 95 countries.
