Cognitive clouds for IBM Bluemix from Cognitive Scale

Cognitive Scale has launched what it says is the first standards-based, industry- and process-centric cognitive cloud that will run on the IBM Bluemix platform. Bluemix is a standards-based cloud platform for building, managing and running applications of all types. It is the third platform as a service running Cognitive Scale’s cognitive clouds, the others being Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

Cognitive Scale claims its cognitive clouds are the next evolution of cloud computing and a new class of data interpretation and learning systems that accelerate the development of cognitive applications. It adds that cognitive clouds weave insights and advice in the fabric of business and daily life while learning continuously from user engagement and multi-structured data interactions.

Cognitive Scale reports its cognitive clouds contain billions of insights across key industries and business processes, and they work multi-structured and industry-specific data, including unstructured or “dark data” found in public datasets, databases, blogs, e-mails, social media and images. Their ability to extract and uncover semantic patterns from untapped data sources across the Web and on mobile devices results in personalized, contextualized and actionable cognitive insights. Cognitive Scale is also a strategic IBM Watson ecosystem partner and uses IBM Watson services in select industry solutions.

Cognitive Scale’s cognitive clouds for healthcare bring together information from public, private, social and device sources, and securely integrate this data, along with patient information, which results in more personalized care. It also transforms healthcare from being a costly and reactive way to fight disease to a cost-efficient and proactive way to prevent illness and promote wellness. In retail, cognitive clouds create a personalized shopping experience by presenting the right offers at the right time to the right customer based on intuiting the shopper’s needs through observing onsite and social behavior, and learning from expressed interests and preferences.

For the financial service market, cognitive computing addresses a variety of needs from personal advising to detecting potential fraud. Cognitive process clouds provide value to horizontal business processes such as employee service desks, human resources, billing and procurement, for example.

Cognitive Scale says its clouds offer complete transparency while maintaining security and data sovereignty. The portable clouds can be created in 10 seconds, deliver a cognitive app in 10 hours based on Cognitive Scale’s curated insights and customize the app using customer data within 10 days. Additionally, its search capabilities deliver insight that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Its ability to understand natural language, continuously learn with every user interaction, offer personalized recommendations and support e-commerce further increases its value over time.
