DocPoint Adds Project Hosts’ Cloud Solutions and Services to its GSA Schedule 70 Offerings
Continuing to expand its General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule 70 offerings, DocPoint Solutions, Inc., a vendor specializing in the implementation, customization, training, and support of SharePoint solutions and its suite of products, announced at the recent SharePoint Fest that it has added Project Hosts’ cloud solutions.
Project Hosts is a cloud services provider with a FedRAMP Agency Authority To Operate for its Federal Private Cloud (FPC) for Windows and Linux applications.
A key capability offered by Project Hosts’ hybrid cloud architecture, according to DocPoint, is that it allows agencies to leverage shared services for some functions – such as authentication, monitoring, and scanning - while still having the option to choose dedicated servers for applications and databases. This option for dedicated servers is critical for agencies since it allows them to meet compliance requirements and also provides them with flexibility to implement customizations to meet specific functional requirements.
Project Hosts allows organizations to take their on-premise version of SharePoint and move it to the cloud, noted Mike Ratigan, vice president of sales at DocPoint. This is meaningful because the cloud version of SharePoint is different from the on-premise version, said Ratigan. “The Office 365 – SharePoint online is different than the on-premise version, so when you migrate from the on-premise version to the cloud not everything is going to work the same way.”
Project Hosts allows DocPoint to migrate customers from the on-premise version within the agency to the same on-premise version in the Azure cloud because it ostensibly “carves out a piece of Azure,” explained Ratigan. By maintaining what is essentially the same on-premise solution in the cloud, the end user experience is maximized and it also ultimately results in increased user adoption of SharePoint, he said.
According to the GSA, IT Schedule 70 is the largest, most widely used acquisition vehicle in the federal government. It enables federal, state, local, and tribal government entities to direct access to products, services and solutions from more than 5,000 certified industry partners.
Project Hosts’ FPC for Windows and Linux Applications provides cloud-based access to Microsoft applications, including SharePoint, Project Server, Dynamics CRM, Power BI, Visual Studio, TFS, Remote Desktop, and Office; applications from other commercial software vendors such as AvePoint, Gimmal, Innovative-e, Nintex, eSignLive, and UMT360; and open source website content management applications such as Drupal, WordPress and Joomla.
Just as commercial organizations, government agencies and departments are increasingly adopting software as a service and infrastructure as a service offerings in order to decrease costs and increase information sharing. However, Ratigan noted, to be selected for government use, these cloud offerings must first gain a seal of approval in the form of FedRAMP certifications and GSA Schedule 70 contracts.
According to DocPoint, with Project Hosts’ cloud solutions and services on DocPoint’s GSA Schedule 70, federal agencies and government organizations gain the ability to use a single entity for a secure and compliant enterprise content management (ECM) solution.
Through this partnership, DocPoint will be able to promote and sell FedRAMP SaaS-level-compliant cloud solutions as part of a complete ECM system. With this move, Project Hosts aligns itself with DocPoint, said Ratigan, and becomes part of a “true ECM path.”
