Sorting Through Content Management
Copy That
Electronic document management has been around for a long time, successfully managing the creation, capture, indexing, storage, retrieval, and disposition of business records. However, as Erik Oehler, Global Digital Content Marketing Manager for Alaris, a Kodak Alaris Business, says, it was just a first step in the race to move the automation of business processes into workflows.
He gives us the example of a hospital using Robotic Process Automation (RPA). The health care system is replete with forms. Capturing all the pieces of patient information that are entered into forms with complete accuracy guarantees that the proper care is delivered, insurance companies receive current data, and billing records are prepared correctly. Now take the example of that one hospital and multiply it by all the hospitals in the country and you have the potential of records for over 100 million patients each year. With those kinds of numbers, the consequences of bad information are frightening. The liabilities are immense, as they are with any business operating at that scale.
Oehler stresses the importance of high-quality document scanning to forestall having to clean up unstructured, useless data. From a technical perspective, he recommends not relying on DPI (dots per square inch) specifications. Data quality from OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is higher.
Whether you’re deciding how to manage your personal content prior to a move or in charge of document management for your company, getting a handle on the available options will make your life easier.
