Exploring content management, security, and governance in the digital era
As data and the environments they inhabit continue to grow more and more complex, managing, securing, and governing content troubles enterprises as they adapt to the ever-changing digital landscape.
Experts joined KMWorld’s webinar, Managing, Securing, and Governing Content Across the Digital Landscape, to guide viewers through mastering content governance, security, and management while making room for contemporary digital practices.
To begin, Thomas Trela, senior director of product management at Access, shed light on the current digital landscape. He explained that rapid information growth, paired with the diversity in data creation and decentralized storage, has led to challenging disparities that threaten the success of a data-driven business.
These challenges—namely, the balance between accessibility and security, consistency in governance, and regulatory compliance—must be remediated to achieve a great content strategy.
Trela then offered these best practices for inviting successful content management to an organization:
- Centralize content management through cloud integration, connecting systems, and backup testing.
- Maintain data integrity and relevance with regular data audits, employee training for adherence, while acknowledging SaaS solutions and the challenges of data access.
Additionally, Trela pointed to several technologies—AI and ML, blockchain, and hybrid cloud—as methods to use when considering an enterprise content strategy. Regarding security and governance, Trela recommended role-based access, automated compliance checks, and implementing a data lifecycle management system.
John Chmaj, senior director, KM Strategy at Verint, explained that AI fulfills and extends the KM value proposition. Able to automate analysis, curation, and optimization, as well as provide deep insights into evolving needs and opportunities, AI—and in particular, large language models (LLMs)—can address the challenges emerging in a data-driven landscape, according to Chmaj.
While KM and content strategies continue to face the problems they always have, merging best practices in this area with emerging technologies will differentiate a successful strategy from an unsuccessful one.

The problem, Vigliotti posited, is due to “digital mayhem,” a deadly mix of manual document processing, process standardization, sheer volume, and differing formats that prevent the formation of a successful content management strategy.
