KMWorld's Community Awards

The KM Community Awards, new in 2025, recognize an individual or individuals who have made a significant impact in the knowledge management community. The award recipients, selected by KMWorld, have demonstrated meaningful contributions to the common good of the KM and information industry through volunteerism, research, published works, and/or project management.

The winners, who were announced at the KMWorld conference luncheon on November 21, 2025, were Marjorie Hlava, Founder and Chief Scientist, at Access Innovation, and Stan Garfield, Founder at SIKM Leaders Community.

Margie Hlava is a highly respected expert in taxonomies, metadata, and data science, with a proven track record of innovation in databases and search. Her groundbreaking work has earned her numerous awards, including ASIS&T’s Award of Merit, the SLA John Cotton Dana; and SLA President’s Award, and recognition as an SLA Fellow. She has also been honored as an Albuquerque Business First Woman of Influence for Technology and received Miles Conrad lectureship for NFAIS. Margie is actively involved in standards development and has contributed to several key initiatives.

Stan Garfield is renowned as a KM author, speaker, and community leader.  He initiated and led KM programs for Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, Digital Equipment, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and was a Community Evangelist, for Deloitte Global Knowledge Services. He started the SIKM Leaders Community to share experiences and insights into implementing KM programs, in 2005 and it is still a very active discussion group. His latest book, Profiles in Knowledge: 120 Thought Leaders in Knowledge Management, published by Lucidea Press, is a compilation of the writing and thinking of leading KM practitioners, grouped into 20 categories.
