Crawford Technologies’ integration with D2L automates content accessibility in the education sector

Crawford Technologies, a provider of innovative document solutions that streamline, improve, and manage customer communications, is announcing a partnership with D2L, a global learning innovation company that helps organizations reshape the future of education and work. Culminating in the launch of AccessibilityNow DocMD for LMS (learning management system), this collaboration serves to enhance D2L’s ability to help its clients deliver accessible, compliant course content created in Microsoft Word files or PDFs.

Accessibility is a foremost concern for organizations and their websites and documentation, especially in the education sector. Ensuring that documents and learning resources are accessible to students with disabilities and are ADA-compliant is crucial—yet identifying and validating that content is accessible is an overwhelming, complex task, according to the companies.

Crawford Technologies’ AccessibilityNow DocMD for LMS integrates with D2L Brightspace, D2L’s mobile-friendly learning platform, to enable Brightspace users to easily scan, test, and correct inaccessible documents and learning resources. Organizations can now more easily comply with ADA regulations through robust, automatic document validation against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and PDF/UA standards.

“In an age where training and education programs are increasingly delivered in a digital environment, we are excited to partner with the market leading company committed to providing a learning experience that meets the needs of all people, regardless of ability,” said Ernie Crawford, president and CEO of Crawford Technologies. “By integrating AccessibilityNow DocMD for LMS into the D2L Brightspace platform, instructors will be able to remove the vulnerability of non-compliance with the ability to accurately and automatically assess document accessibility needs and easily remediate those that are non-compliant.”

“At D2L, we are committed to creating inclusive and accessible learning environments for all. Partnering with Crawford Technologies enhances educators’ ability to deliver compliant and accessible course content seamlessly within D2L Brightspace. Instructors can focus on teaching and their learners, knowing that their materials meet the highest accessibility standards,” said Ken Chapman, VP of partnerships at D2L.
