Proofpoint and Microsoft join forces to fortify human-centric cybersecurity
Proofpoint Inc., a leading cybersecurity and compliance company, is announcing that through an expanded global partnership with Microsoft, Microsoft Azure will serve as the trusted cloud infrastructure foundation from which Proofpoint innovations will be built upon. Underpinned by Azure’s AI capabilities and extensive solution environment, Proofpoint will strengthen its delivery of worldwide threat protection and data security centered around human risk, according to the companies.
The constantly evolving threat landscape is compounded by another vulnerability: human-centric compromises. According to Verizon’s “2024 Data Breach Investigations Report,” 90% of publicly reported data breaches were due to human error and malicious tactics.
Proofpoint addresses this challenge with a human-centric security platform designed to offer rapid threat detection, reduced operational complexity, and more effective risk mitigation, the company explained. With Azure as its foundation and engine for innovation, Proofpoint will accelerate the development of new features, each integrated into Microsoft 365. This includes the integration of Proofpoint’s Nexus threat intelligence into Microsoft Sentinel, driving richer insights, faster incident response, and enhanced visibility.
“Human-centric security is about enabling the digital workspace. And for most of our enterprise customers, that digital workspace is Microsoft,” said Darren Lee, executive vice president and general manager, threat protection group at Proofpoint. “Built on top of Microsoft Azure, we’re delivering advanced, preventive protection for the most important layer in the cybersecurity ecosystem—the human layer. We’re equipping organizations with the capabilities they need to reduce human risk at scale and thrive in their digital workspace.”
The combination of a human-centric approach to security with Microsoft’s robust infrastructure affords mutual customers the power of fortified, scalable, and proactive solutions to modern cyber threats without sacrificing agility, according to the companies. Some key benefits include:
- Enhanced data protection across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem
- Advanced email security with holistic protection against phishing, business email compromise, ransomware, and other targeted attacks
- Reduced operational costs and improved efficiency
- Protection against new and evolving data risks as a result of generative AI (GenAI)
“Microsoft Azure is the cloud platform of choice for security vendors across the industry,” said Kathleen Brown, corporate vice president, Americas enterprise at Microsoft. “Today’s announcement is a great example of how Azure provides powerful cloud infrastructure to help Microsoft and our partners meet our mutual customers’ evolving security requirements.”
