Document Output and Print Management

To combat this, organizations are turning to fit-for-purpose, vendor-agnostic solutions (like ASG-Cypress) to manage, access, analyze and distribute documents contained within its entire information base more efficiently. These solutions integrate at the content level, not the application level, and have the ability to manage content from any location, no matter the content or source type, enabling organizations to know exactly where it resides, how it's managed and who has access to it.

These capabilities enable organizations in healthcare, manufacturing, insurance, logistics and distribution to efficiently manage their document output. But, it's not just for the sake of being more efficient and productive. Organizations need to be assured that a document output and print management solution will bring them real-world benefits. This means allocating resources more intelligently, streamlining communication and meeting industry compliance standards and regulations, while lowering costs, improving user and customer satisfaction and, finally, realizing ROI from increasing ECM investments.

Healthcare is one industry that's at the forefront of intelligent output management, due, in large part, to changing regulations and standards. When concerns around prescription fraud and tampering arose, the US Government Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) implemented the new secure tamper-resistant prescription regulation. The new regulations stated that all written prescriptions for outpatient drugs prescribed to a Medicaid beneficiary were required to be printed on tamper-resistant pads. This change would require ?a massive overhaul in operations and ?would prove to be a headache for many institutions, including Orlando Health, a non-profit healthcare organization and a community-based network of physician practices, hospitals and care centers.

To comply with the new standards, Orlando Health needed to identify a solution that could route location-based prescriptions to the printer associated with that location, offer paper tray selection for multiple printer configurations and support multiple printers at the same location-all implemented in one year, including printer configuration and final rollout.

Now, Orlando Health has the ability to print prescriptions by unit name and/or by workstation with little-to-no trouble configuring, adapting and printing tamper-resistant prescriptions with more than 1,000 different printer configurations. Additionally, the centralized, system-wide solution is able to be easily managed by one person, while working to assist with the integration of additional facilities to meet the new CMS mandate. After it was all said and done, Orlando Health ended up rolling out the solution to its entire physician alliance community.

It's All about Managing the Content

The amount of content that is produced daily by organizations' employees, business applications, customers and business partners continues to grow exponentially and content-driven business process management, like document output and print management, is key for business optimization and compliance. To successfully manage the content being produced, organizations cannot turn to a one-size-fits-all solution but, rather, should strive to implement a fit-for-purpose solution that can increase productivity and agility, helping organizations make sense of their content.
